C'est la vie.
SDS again on Sunday afternoon and then Maryland Eastern Shore Monday night.
Then tournaments and regular season and then next August NCAA again.
It has been an enjoyable exhibition series.
It would be fun if the Canadian USports champion could get a play-in game to March Madness. It would be interesting to see how far they could go in that wonderful tourney.
Doubt it will happen. I'm sure U.S. clubs don't want to give up the revenue or the prestige.
The NCAA asked Canadian universities if they wanted to join Division II a few years ago but the schools declined (except Simon Fraser University in B.C.). No natural rivalries and I think the NCAA wanted the Canadian schools to join in five sports. There's just not the revenue in university sports here to make it work. Too bad. School first, athletics second ... hard to disagree with that philosophy.
But the biggest sticking point was the lack of competition in Div. II. Carleton has played some DII teams but it wins something like 130-25. Better competition playing up here in Canadian schools.
D1 would be an interesting challenge. That's why I think a play-in game might work for the Madness but I doubt there is interest south of the border (or north of the border, for that matter).
Carleton is looking forward to getting its star guard back from a broken foot and there's a Canadian kid transferring back up here from Texas El Paso. Interesting to see how good he is.
I think you'll have fun watching Canadian R.J. Barrett play for Duke this year. He's much better than Canadian and ex-Duke player Jamal Murray who is now toiling in the NBA.
Some say he might be Canuck Steve Nash calibre. Nash is the GM of the Canadian national team. Carleton coach Dave Smart is an assistant coach.
Would have been fun to have seen Duke and R.J. Barrett this year up here this weekend. Saw Bennett play for the national team a few weeks ago against U.S. Virgin Islands. Hard to tell how good he was with all the NBA talent on the Canadian National Team. Not too much court time.
Enjoy your weekend and the rest of summer.
