Offensive line coach J.B. Grimes has worked on improving technique along the line on field goal protections throughout the offseason.

"The No. 1 thing is it gets back to technique," Grimes said. "It gets back to personnel too, and you've got to be really strong in the middle in today's environment because the defenses aren't allowed to jump anymore. So what you've got to do is you got to be strong in the middle so they don't blow you up inside. That's the biggest thing. So scheme-wise we're experimenting with some things."

Washington had one blocked kick last season, a blocked punt by defensive tackle Vita Vea, who is now in the NFL.

The last time the Huskies blocked a field goal was in Week 2 of the 2015 season, when Taniela Tupou blocked a Sacramento State field goal attempt, which came a week after Vea blocked a Boise State field goal.
