quote:
70s, and 80s the big 10 was a deeper league
Complete garbage
NOT in either the 70's and 80's
70's first:
AU,UGA,Bama,UT and UK all had top 10 finishes over the course of the decade and WHO outside the obvious 2 made the top 10 from the BIG?Purdue and they came in @ #10 ONE year.
Now the 80's (this is where you lose ALL credibility)
Top 5 finishes SEC:NINE with 5 teams
UGA,UF,UT,AU and LSU
Top 5 finishes:THREE with 1 team
Michigan
To argue the 80's is beyond absurd.

Dude the SEC was a fricking mess in the 1980s. This was true for many conferences, actually. We saw the rise of independents like Miami, Penn State, and Florida State. We saw many good teams (Auburn, Florida, SMU, etc.) rendered ineligible for cheating.
Georgia was good early in the decade because of a single player. Outside of that, the SEC was not even close to dominating the college football landscape.
