I agree that LSU has a much better history than they get credit for. They've been solid.

However, I am not sure how 11-11-1 beats 10-8.

Just that making an appearance in a major bowl indicates a very good season. It's more 23 appearances vs 18. (I noted this in my OP.) To be fair to non-LSU programs, LSU did probably get a couple of invitations to the Sugar because they were in Louisiana, i.e., political considerations. Don't know that, but certainly possible. OTOH, they had a very good-great 9-1 (3 pt loss to #8 OM) team left at home in 1969. Coach Bryant (VERY pro-SEC and pro-Coach McClendon, he played and coached for Bryant) was incensed. I could be wrong, but that may have been what started Coach Bryant's arrangement of the SEC-Sugar tie-in. Even though LSU 4-1 did not win the title that year, UT at 5-1 did, though LSU was much better. UT lost 38-0 to OM.

I understand your point, but in this particular case, how much better is 56% than 50% in a small sample size? If you look at the individual games, LSU lost several where they were severely physically over-matched (esp vs Neb a few times), but were heroic in their loss. The guess is that UGA will pass them in a few years anyway.

Fair enough. Maybe I just misunderstood your post. I took it to mean that all things considered equal you went with bowl appearances.
