Let's all take a moment of silence to remember the reason for the holiday

22 years ago today our planet was saved from an alien invasion by Earth's two greatest heroes, Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum.




We should also remember the heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice, like Randy Quaid




Personall I always like to celebrate this day by listening to the chilling speech made by President Bill Pullman to the pilots before they flew off on their mission

It really is a testament to the human spirit how quickly cities all over the world rebuilt. For example, it took 3 years to rebuild the White House after it was burned in the War of 1812, but it was rebuilt so quickly of the Alien Invasion of 1996 that I don't even remember the reconstruction and it was completely blown up this time.
