It relates to my unhealthy amount of pride. I don’t think I am better than anyone else but I just really like who I am. That confidence has been key for my work success but it was detrimental to my relationship success.

I was never a “player” and I have no “game”. But I had 3 serious girlfriends before my wife.

So to answer the question:

My biggest regret was how I treated those girlfriends at the end of the relationships. When I was happy, I treated them great. All 3 of them admitted that they thought we would eventually marry.

However, when each relationship got unsatisfying - I just said goodbye. No feelings about it at all. I did not have a reason. I just said good luck and left. It was no different than going to the pizza place and then telling me they are out of pepperoni. So I just ordered sausage. I did not really care. No sadness. No anger. Just nothing.

After the 3rd breakup - I questioned if I had feelings at all. I was prepared to never marry until I met my wife. Now I know that if we divorced, I would be devastated. So I am apparently not a sociopath after all.

But I still wish I could apologize to the other girls for it.
