But I guess in the business world, most huge corporations offer great severance packages, over and above their contractual due wages, to employees who are terminated/resigned with cause... for improper business practices.

That link does not substantiate you claims, only that one assistant was paid to 'resolve disputed claims related to his separation'. Now, you may well be right, I don't know. But you are only making assumptions.

Actually it most likely was in his contract when he signed. That he would be paid his full salary for the year, and that would be it. There are several examples in the business world for it (Enron, Lehman Brothers Holdings, GM, Conseco), so you do not know what you are talking about.
