What is your biggest concern with a tax break?

Is it the government stepping into the business of choosing winners and losers in a free market economy?

Bingo. In a way I understand them, because if we didn't give Delta, Mercedes, Porsche, the movie/tv industry etc. those tax breaks, someone else would and those companies would leave, taking all the jobs with them. The only one that would have to grin and bear it is Delta, they need the infrastructure that only the ATL airport provides.

The only way the selective corporate tax break issue gets fixed is if we get a new set of....and I hate myself for saying this....federal legislation that makes all economic development departments play by the same rules.

So, Corporate welfare and handouts are the only way to create prosperity and jobs in Georgia?

Gross.

I wonder how many Georgians who died fighting against this idea are rolling in their graves right now.

Corporatism is just a form of Socialism. It’s really amazing how proudly and openly socialist so many supposed conservatives and most of The Georgia GOP is. Makes me want to tune back out. So very sad.

I don't like the government choosing winners and losers either.

But this is a global economy. Delta is competing against airlines all across the world. The state of Georgia giving them perks is not any different than what goes on in New York, Beijing, Paris, etc.. The perks received by Delta are not costing Georgia companies anything in a competitive disadvantage.

You can say that we are losing tax revenue with the perks. But this is tax revenue that wouldn't exist without the businesses hubbed here. So there isn't a loss.

Jobs are the be all end all. The government doesn't have to create jobs. But government doesn't have to be an impediment either.
