With Roquan out who is the best linebacker in the SEC 2018?

LSU has a beast in the middle and of course Bama is riddled with 5 and 4 star guys in the two deep. MSU has a guy we would all love to have. Who gets your vote?

If I had to say, either one of Alabama's Linebackers, Devin White, or Tyrel Dodson. SEC is stacked at linebacker

Easy, Devin White. I do think there is someone off the radar that will come on big, like Willie Gay

Devin White should be the easy favorite right now.
But don't be shocked if Dandre Walker leapfrogs him.
14 tackles for a loss as a role player last season with very limited snaps behind Lorenzo Carter.

White is a gamechanger

Its Devin White. He won SEC POW a record 3 times last year and they were all against SEC opponents. Called it last year.

With all due respect I would be surprised

Downvote for not mentioning Deshaun Davis. He's up there.

14 TFL as a role player is impressive. To put it in perspective, he had more TFL than projected 1st rounder Rashaan Evans, playing half the amount of snaps.
I’ll still say Devin White. He has the instincts to be great

Is he a hybrid OLB/DE?
He only had 39 total tackles last season, 13.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks
Odd group of numbers there.
For reference about some other players in this thread, Devin White had 133 tackles, 13.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks, Tyrel Dodson had 104 tackles, 10 TFL and 5.5 sacks.

Last season, he was mostly a 3rd down linebacker, a backer who would play late in games, or would give the starters 1 series off.
As for big play potential, he is the real deal.
The concern is the same for most rising 3-4 OLB. Does he have the weight to do his role shutting down the run game. That is to be determined. Carter and Bellamy both struggled with that in '16. The hope is that 3 years under Kirby, he is already there.

Devin White is a beast. I know LSU felt disrespected last year because they felt like no one acknowledged Devin because of Roquan but at the end of the day we know he's a hell of a player and this year I expect him to be the best backer in the conference and quite possibly the country.

State has a handful of guys who are beasts in their own right. Obviously Willy has been getting the Roquan comparisons but Leo Lewis looked to have made a lot of progress in the spring.
Hard to say who will be "best" in a conference so deep at the position.

Devin absolutely should be the front runner right now. He has absolutely earned that.
That doesn't mean that great talents can't jump him. It happens all of the time. I remember preseason when no one was talking about Justin Houston (he didn't show up on any top 25 preseason lists). And then he comes on to lead the conference in the regular season in sacks and tackles for a loss. Sometimes, only 1 team's fans has an inkling of the talent that will get his turn to shine for the upcoming season.

IMO, Group at the top for inside backers would be:
Mack Wilson
Devin White
Dylan Moses
I don't know everyone's outside backer talent, but Terrell Lewis from Bama is going to have a monster year. Anfernee Jennings may surprise some too.

He has no business being mentioned in this discussion yet.

This is a meaningless comparison. Inside guys aren't going to get TFL numbers like outside guys.
14 TFL is impressive though.
