I'm 100% sure I qualified my "news flash" with "Probably means nothing". Only reason I brought it up was because I thought it was odd that we were still pursuing him.

Pruitt is doing a very good job thus far for 2019. One characteristic of a great recruiter is that they leave no stone unturned, though of course there comes a point to where you can waste time. But I can see the rationale for still holding out hope in this case, though in the end there's really not much. But what have you lost, maybe a little discretionary time ? Saban keeps in touch with numerous recruits that he has no intention of bringing in, but he does it "just in case".

I'm one who thinks Pruitt is likely to do a good job. I know I would rather have him than Kirby despite the "country boy" manner. Kirby is good, but Pruitt is a much better position coach, DC and talent evaluator. He is extremely smart and incredibly driven. They are both very good with the kids, Pruitt probably even has a slight edge there too. We just don't know yet from a big picture POV, nor what challenges UT/Fulmer pose. Also, can he hire and handle a good staff ? Can he handle all of those issues ?

Definitely can hire a good staff, improved every position coach, except for maybe running back (although I don't know how much coaching running backs need). Hired one of the best S&C coaches in the business, got Kevin Simon, Montario Hardesty to come home and hired a future rockstar as an Offensive consultant (Joe Osevet). Plus, Neidemeyer is cheat code, Bama can not have him back, we're keeping him.

Now, maintaining a staff remains to be seen, I know his intensity rubs some people the wrong way.
