Bama loses the national title if they redshirt their backup qb rather than give him real snaps. Depends on how we use those snaps. To run out the clock, which is worthless, or prep the backups to be ready, like saban did.

Want to expand your memory? Then go back to our first game of 2002. We needed a backup qb off the bench to win that game.

I could be wrong but I don't think anyone is saying don't play him if we need him just to preserve the redshirt.

The advocates are saying, it makes no sense to play him just to play him. In other words, is JF11 get hurt, of course you play him. But playing meaningless time against a scrub opponent isn't going to make him any better. At that point save the rest shirt until we need him.

You don't need to declare a redshirt up front. If we need him because JF11 gets hurt, then you play him. Otherwise, you don't.
