Interesting comment from Cuonzo Martin on his radio show on Mitchell Smith. Says he’ll be “scratching and clawing for major minutes next year.”

This was a follow up
quote:

He was complimenting him for the way he’s rehabbed & practiced.

When you’re 6’10” and the people you’d be stealing minutes from is Kevin Puryear or Jontay. I’d say that’s a good sign if he’s even considered scratching and clawing for major minutes.

Then it means he has a good work ethic. I've gone thru the ACL surgery/rehab and it's a grind getting back to where you were so props to MS.

ive liked what ive seen from smith in the very limited minutes. People talk about how this team lacks athleticism, where there you go.

We’ve seen all the former players that looked like trash playing at Mizzou for KA only to transfer and be very good.

Smith was the KA recruit that I thought had the highest ceiling, he also had the lowest floor. If he is healed, maintained his athleticism, gotten stronger and developed similar to other players that Cuonzo has worked with then Smith will be really in college.

I know this wont mean anything to most of you guys, but Smith is a clone of SLU's cory remekun, who played for slu back when slu was good. He wasn't the best player by any means(6th man most of the time) but he could change the game just off of his athleticism alone. most off his points came off of alley-oops.

Not sure what else we'd expect him to say. I'll believe it when I see it. Trust me, I'd like to see the kid make an impact because if he does, given the players already in his role, that means he's become pretty damn good.

After seeing the quote I went back and listened to the part of the interview. He wasn’t asked about Smith. He went out of his way to praise Smith and the work he has put in rehabbing and then practicing while he’s redshirting.

If Jontay is back we are looking at he and Tilmon taking about 55 of the 80 minutes for the frontcourt. Right now I think Puryear would get the majority of those 25 minutes.

I wouldn’t be suprised if Smith were to steal some of the minutes that Puryear and Nikko got this season.

You're awfully optimistic about Tilmon staying on the court

Jontay 40 mins
Tillmon 15 mins

It could happen.

It’s not much of an increase. It’s an extra 5 minutes on average from both Tilmon and Porter.

So you are thinking that Tilmon plays less as a sophomore. Interesting.
