What took Mike White so long to go to zone?

Texas Tech had one guy that could shoot deep. They were killing us with high picks at the free throw line. We were in foul trouble in the first few minutes of the tip and especially in the 2nd half. Tech is a good team but not a great team. They were one of the few teams smaller than us and can't shoot anywhere near as good as us. Yes, the refs sucked but a packed in zone early would have won this game going away.

Making a few free throws and wide open 3's would have helped as well. Very frustrating game against that obnoxious fanbase and horrible refs. Oh well. I didn't see us getting far without Egbunu anyway. I just hated to go out against a team that didn't have any bigs.

Kind of the same thing some of us have been saying all year. White doesn't adjust things when they aren't working in game. You know what you will get with us every time on the court. White is a good coach, but has a lot of things he needs to work on. We shall see how it goes next year without ChIzzy

White switched up defenses quite a bit last year. I just assume with this team he didn’t feel comfortable with them running zone unless it was a last resort. They were awful at it early in the year.

What cost us the game against Texas Tech wasn't whether or not Coach White went to a zone early enough or not, it was missed free throws down the stretch and poor shooting. All year we have had key players that were no shows in some games and Saturday night one of those nights. Look at the stats! Chizzy being in foul trouble didn't help the situation either.

White said all year that they were terrible at zone, not to mention the rebounding issues were already bad enough.

The move to zone was a last ditch effort to stop some of the bleeding we had with foul trouble.

The defense in teh 2nd half was actually VERY good until the refs started calling everything.

If Donovan hadn't gone to a zone would we be hearing this fricking chirping? I know we wouldn't.

Donovan didn't employed zones much either. We just went cold and most of the time TT defended the 3s pretty well and when they didn't? We still missed shots and we were just cold.

Hudson is a liability on defense but can shoot well and you cant pull him. Our team gave great effort and have almost the entire season...should be holding your heads up.

I was screaming in the game thread for us to go to zone. It seemed very obvious to me. Once he finally did it totally stopped TT's offense but it was too little, too late. Even a box and one would have worked well.

This team had so much potential.

We have been terrible with zone all year. And Texas Tech's offense WAS stopped even before we went to zone.

The refs just started calling everything in the paint FOR them and they hit some very lucky late shot clock jumpers.

Now that the season has played out, I believe this team was very limited and may have reached it's potential. I thought that the sweet 16 would have been the top achievement possible for this group after watching them all season. The lack of an inside game, poor shooting in key minutes during a game and players that would disappear for entire games, all limited it's success. Hoping for a better season next year, Go Gators.
