I’m an upcoming grad from Ole Miss looking to move to Memphis for work. No bs what is it like to live here- especially as a young professional. Also, where would you live? I have buddies from Germantown, Collierville, and the nicer parts of Memphis proper, but obviously I couldn’t afford that. I’ve heard Cooper-Young is a good place to be?

Where do you work?

If you work close to downtown... go across the river and rent in Marion, Arkansas. You will be closer to the Downtown then most of Memphis and the rent will be a lot less.

If you work in the Eastern outskirts of Memphis then I'd look at Southhaven or Germantown. Both are nice places to live. If you are a on a tight budget... Marion and be willing to eat a 90 minute commute back and forth.

The Memphis interior is either over priced or in an urban war zone. Unless you make really good money you don't live in Memphis... you live along the periphery closest to your job.

Basically... downtown live in Arkansas. Eastern live in Germantown or Southhaven.

Marion is a piece of shite. If he gets a chick at Raifords and he drags her back across the bridge to a piece of shite like Marion, yeah good fricking luck getting your dick wet from there. Southaven is a better alternative to this. No question. Do not listen to this suggestion OP.

I’m guessing you’re assuming his budget for housing is $250 a month. Seriously, dude, I’m warning you, do not live in Arkansas. The cheapest mother fricker I know could afford to live on Mud Island. I give him shite on a weekly basis on my group me for being a cheap shite. Do not go further across the Mississippi than that. You’d be better off in literal Mississippi than living in Marion or West Memphis. I can not stress this highly enough that this guy has led you astray.

Hell, does Uber operate out there? I’m not sure if they do. I know they do in Southaven, so worst case go with that.

EDIT: And if you lived in Southaven you can lie to hot chicks and say you work for FedEx, since Southaven is closer to FedEx than Mud Island, Downtown, and Midtown are. I wouldn’t exactly recommend Southaven, but it’s definitely better than anywhere in Arkansas. Living in Arkansas and working in Memphis just says to everyone “I’m a deadbeat loser”. Seriously, I’m looking out for your future. That poster may as well have recommended you chop your dick off.

Whatever you do, don't do this. There is a reason that parents in Marion, AR send their children to Christian Bros. in Memphis.

I'm not an expert on current Memphis, but Midtown used to be good for single post-grads. I had family and friends that lived there, and it was a blast to visit them.
