Will 5-star RB Trey Sanders join his brother at Florida?

quote:

Trey Sanders, the nation’s No. 1 running back, was included last Friday as one of six 5-star recruits who are seriously considering the Gators.

Sanders made a surprise visit to Florida on Saturday, watching the second open practice and touring the campus with his mother and older brother, junior college linebacker Umstead Sanders.

The 5-star RB told SEC Country he likes the new coaching staff and plans to return to Florida in the future. It won’t just be for a recruiting trip, either.

Sanders’ brother announced his commitment to the Gators on Sunday. He will join the program this summer as a preferred walk-on and also received interest from Texas A&M, which hosted him for an official visit on Feb. 2.

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Sanders is ranked as the nation’s No. 15 outside linebacker and No. 192 overall recruit in 247Sports’ JUCO rankings. He will have a chance to contribute at Florida’s linebacker position.

His decision doesn’t make Trey Sanders a lock for the Gators, but it certainly helps their chances. They already had the approval of his mother, who grew up a Florida fan and still loves the team.

The nation’s No. 6 overall recruit has been feeling the Gators recently because of the program’s direction under new coach Dan Mullen. With his brother now on board, Sanders has even more incentive to go to Florida.

He and his mother should make it back to Gainesville for some games this fall. That will give Mullen and his staff more opportunities to spend time with Sanders and try to make him part of the team.

The former Alabama commit claims no leaders right now and told SEC Country he’s taking his time with the recruiting process.
