Christian Harris adds offer from LSU

This offer was going to come eventually for Christian Harris. Harris, a 4-star athlete at University Lab High School, lives in Baton Rouge, La., and grew up a fan of the Tigers. LSU offered on Thursday. University Lab’s football field is within earshot of Tiger Stadium. You can clearly see it from the field.

He’s also one of the hottest recruits in the country. Since visiting Alabama last weekend, Harris has added offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, TCU, Tennessee and now LSU. That doesn’t include numerous other offers since the year began.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound prospect told SEC Country after his visit to Tuscaloosa that Alabama was his leader. The Tide held a giant lead over Texas and Texas A&M, which were tied for No. 2.

I asked Harris what an LSU offer would mean to his recruitment, and here’s what he said:

“Right now, I’m pretty stuck on Alabama. Having an LSU offer is really everyone’s dream if you’re a high school player from Baton Rouge. Having an offer from your hometown school is a pretty big accomplishment. It would mean a lot to me.”

It’s interesting to note that Alabama considers Harris one of its top inside linebacker targets in the 2019 class, but LSU offered Harris as an offensive athlete,  according to our own Sam Spiegelman. Harris told me that he doesn’t have a position preference.

Harris wouldn’t be the first University Lab graduate to play for Alabama. Dylan Moses played for U-Lab before transferring to IMG Academy for his senior season. Moses and Harris were close when the former lived in Baton Rouge.

“Dylan Moses and I grew up in the same football league and we ran track together,” Harris said. “He went to my high school, too. We were pretty good friends when he was here. I haven’t really talked to him much since he left. Him being at Alabama, we all knew how good he was, but they have made him so much better. I saw it when he started a couple of games at the end of the season.”

I don’t think this offer changes much right now. Alabama has a significant lead for one of the nation’s top athletes, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him make an early commitment.

5-star commit headed to Tennessee this weekend

Pierce Quick, a 5-star tackle from Hewitt-Trussville High School (Trussville, Ala.), will visit Tennessee this weekend. Quick had a close relationship with Brian Niedermeyer when he was at Alabama as an assistant director of player personnel. Niedermeyer is now the Volunteers’ tight ends coach.

Quick is going to be Alabama’s best peer recruiter in the 2019 class, but he’s going to take visits elsewhere. He’s likely going to take all five of his official visits, but it would be a shock if he didn’t sign with the Crimson Tide.

The 6-5, 285-pound prospect grew up dreaming of Alabama, and I don’t think any other school is going to get in the way of him accomplishing one of his biggest goals.
