I know I may sugar coat our own guys sometimes, but we'll see what happens with Moody sooner rather than later. He's a player.
I knew Moody was under the radar, underrated and not recruited much due to grade concerns, but that take on his potential is good to hear, to say the least.
Any new info on the outlook for Cowan and Benton being eligible?

Yeah and besides UT has crazy injury problems like every year. Probably some strength and conditioning issues but, still these things can repeat themselves.

One thing I never really worry about is our middle linebackers. Well until Holcombe hit the field vs Miss St.

I haven't heard anything new on Benton in a while. And nothing new on Cowan's eligibility situation. Just the stuff about him continuing to be a knucklehead. They are also very high on Benton's potential. Hopefully he'll be eligible for the 1st game.

Is Bama pursuing any of the grad transfers out there like the DL from Clemson or the LB from UT? Seems to be some decent options out there, but not hearing our name much in connection to these guys. DL and ILB are two positions you’d think we’d be all over.

The two Clemson guys who are grad transfers are already committed. Jabril Robinson is going to West Virginia and Sterling Johnson is off to Coastal Carolina. LINK I liked Johnson, but both are still largely unproven.
The LB from Tennessee (Darrin Kirkland) is good but injury prone and would need permission from Pruitt to transfer to us in conference. I doubt we would want to lose a scholly to bring him in, if he even wanted to come, but that is just my opinion.
The rest of the remaining grad transfer market is pretty weak. You can find who is available here. LINK

I haven't seen anything, but that doesn't mean Bama isn't working on it. However, any grad or juco transfer (with only 1-2 years eligibility) we add with a scholarship will cost us an initial counter spot that could otherwise be used to sign a HS recruit with 4 years of eligibility.
So, I doubt Bama wants to add any more than is absolutely necessary. With Musika added, I think we're a'ight and likely done at DL. Some of our DLs can play multiple DL spots. I think we're probably done at QB too, with Hatcher added.
But IF it's looking more likely than not that Cowan and/or Benton can't play for a significant part of 2018, I think they may look to add an ILB, IF they can get someone good.
Alternatives: (1) Get Holcombe to stay for 2018; (2) Cross train Allen heavily in fall camp at ILB; (3) Put a major focus on getting Moody ready to play ASAP, and (4) Play the backup ILBs as much as we can early in the season to develop them and reduce risk of Mack and Moses injuries.

As long as the GOAT walks the sidelines the starters will play every second of every game. Second string messes up his defensive rankings.
I remember watching Jon Allen late in blowout games holding my breath hoping he wouldn't get rolled up into some season ending injury. No idea the real reason for leaving some of those guys out there so long.

We offered a handful of kids this week that I wasn't able to post about initially so I'm playing catch up over the next few posts.

What I liked: Adam Gorney from Clarkson QB Retreat

… the overall ability of D.J. Uiagalelei
The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco standout is currently the only five-star quarterback in the 2020 class and he backed up his ranking once again in this big environment. Uiagalelei has the size of a college-ready quarterback already, he can put zip or touch on the ball when needed and he throws a strike almost every single time. Uiagalelei is also a star baseball prospect and he does have a slight wind-up when throwing a football, but it doesn’t seem to matter. He has immediate chemistry with all his receivers and he puts it right where it needs to be every time. Visits to Alabama and Clemson are coming up. Oregon is also high on his early list but a commitment is nowhere close yet.

… the cannon of Taulia Tagovailoa
Tagovailoa – and his brother, Tua – arrived a little late because of travel issues but the four-star dual-threat quarterback showed off an incredibly strong arm throughout the event. He and Uiagalelei were neck-and-neck for zipping the ball all over the field to receivers but I’d give Tagovailoa the edge throwing on the run. He’s smooth, moves well to his left and right, and then delivers strikes. The Alabama pledge is not just Tua’s brother - he could be a special quarterback in his own right.

… the potential of Aaron McLaughlin
It is hard to believe McLaughlin is just wrapping up his freshman year of high school because he’s been coming to Clarkson events and he’s been on the 7on7 scene for years. As the years have gone by, McLaughlin has continued to develop and looked sharp during drills in Saturday’s workout. He already has the size of a college quarterback at 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, and his release is much cleaner even since last year at this same event. Ole Miss and Alabama will get visits next weekend.
