What former players do you think have a real chance of being a starter in the new league if they wanted to pursue it?

The first two that popped in my head were Shaw and Thompson.

I honestly couldn’t see Shaw doing it considering where he is now.
By 2020 you would hope/assume he’s used his current job to an FBS gig.
One would also assume an FBS position coach would make a better salary than an XFL player.

I wanna say XFL players can’t be making more than 70 which is pretty low.

I don't see Shaw ever playing again now that he has started his coaching career.

I know Garcia was arrested, but were those charges dropped?

quote:

McMahon also said he would preclude any player with a criminal record. "We are evaluating a player based on many things, including the quality of human being they are," McMahon said. "If you have any sort of criminal record or commit a crime you aren't playing in this league."

I think it depends on what their ideal age range is for the new players of XFL. I have a hard time thinking they're going to want a whole bunch of late-20's/early 30's NFL journeymen and practice squad regulars filling their league the whole time, considering that doesn't seem particularly exciting. Obviously, that's all they're really going to get at first, though.

Thompson could be likely. I think Shaw is done.

We might see the likes of:

Ace Sanders
Brandon Wilds (if the Jags don't retain him next season)
Victor Hampton Jr
Cliff Matthews
Travian Robertson
Rok Watkins
Justice Cunningham

I didn't really watch or read much about McMahon's press conference yesterday. Did he indicate if the XFL might go after kids straight from high school to bypass college? Would shake things up immensely IMO.

I bought some stock for Major League Football about a year ago, when Tampa was supposed to have a team comprised of a few Gamecocks with Garcia at QB. It was about $.60 a share; now Enron stock is worth more.

Particularly from this article;

quote:

It is not clear whether star players, should they garner national attention, will be able to jump to the NFL.

"One thing we are not is a development league for the NFL," McMahon said.
