It was mostly about coaching bama until title game...total say on coaches (I suspect our PTB weren't going to be ok with running Rodney) and a few other things. People tend to forget things, but in 2012 Kirby wasn't a more attractive coaching candidate than Gus as well.

Control was part of it. Other things he wanted to know did not concern him if he wasn't the hired HC.
