I know this is our board for pro sports, but did anyone happen to catch the NG vs Col. Co. state championship?
NG took the lead late but missed the xp to only lead by 6. Colquitt scored 7 to go up 1 with about a minute left. NG drove to about the CC 45 or so and stalled out. In the last 10 seconds, CC got called for defensive holding, illegal substitution, some other 5 yard penalty, and pass interference on the final hail Mary of the game. All of these penalties pushed NG up to the 21 yd like e and the kicker nailed the game winning kick.
I could definitely see the Falcons losing a game in similar fashion. It would definitely be an ATL thing to do.

They had BACK TO BACK illegal substitution penalties.
I can't believe the refs called PI on a hail mary though.

Sounds like they got screwed.

Another thing - the Falcons are out of town this weekend. They should've played the games today and tomorrow at MBS and pushed the Athletic and Explosive Bowl (that no one GAF about anyhow) to Sunday.

No doubt. Since when does ANYONE call PI on a hail mary? That would've been 3/4 for Rush Propst and CC.

I understand that line of thinking, but it was CLEARLY the right call. Guy got totally mugged mid-air.
Really cool to see the kicker that had basically lost the game with his missed XP come back and win it with a walk-off.

PI was easy call.
Apparently there was a defensive holding call several plays earlier that was suspect.

Yep, that was after the 2 illegal substitution penalties and before the PI.
NG at NG 44 with :18 left.
NG at NG 49 with :13 left.
NG at CC 46 with :08 left.
NG at CC 36 with :03 left.
NG at CC 21 with :00 left.
Edit: Apparently, defensive holding is 10 yards instead of 5. The extra 5 yards made a HUGE difference on the FG because it barely went through.

Yep it was 10 yards and also didn't result in an automatic first down.
Where are all the Colquitt fans talking about how high school football is fixed???

I watched the game. I couldn't believe how this one concluded. Really terrible way to lose a championship game for Colquitt.
I thought the PI call was basically legitimate. It could have not been called but the DB made some contact with the receiver before he had a chance to catch the ball.
However, there were many other calls throughout the game, mostly against Colquitt, that were suspect. There was a holding call before the two illegal substitution calls that seemed pretty fishy. Idk about those two illegal substitution penalties, maybe Colquitt just fricked up bad, I couldn't really tell on tv what the deal was b/c GPB coverage isn't great.
Beyond that, I think on it was the first play from scrimmage, Colquitt hit a pass play to go deep into NG territory and it was called back on a very questionable holding call. Then they had a long punt return called back on a block in the back later, idk if this was a good call because GPB didn't show it.
I'm not necessarily saying the refs had it in for them, but the calls seemed to go pretty heavily against Colquitt in this game. The last drive was just awful, penalties moved NG from their own territory into FG range.

I missed the holding call but the others on that drive were all legit calls even if it was a Hail Mary.
And Colquitt got a gift on their 4th down the drive before that gave them the lead.

They had 13 guys on the field for the first flag. They had 12 on the field for the second.
As far as the PI goes, there was definitely contact, but I've seen that same contact on a hail Mary not called before. I wouldn't have been mad had they not called it. I was more pissed at NG for not throwing to the sidelines the last two plays to get into fg range.

It is a horrible way to lose a game, but Colquitt absolutely has nobody to blame but themselves. Don't mug a receiver on the 5 yard line with no time left.

Yep. If high school had instant replay that would have been ruled a no catch for sure.

Yeah, a real douche piece of shite.
I'm glad he lost (and I live in Gwinnett, so that helps too).
