Honestly, I don't get the major weight gain either, particularly in such a short amount of time, being as young as he is, being a HC of a sports team at a major university with state-of-the-art equipment/trainers/etc, plus plenty of money to have a fricking live-in chef if he wanted. And before it starts with the 'fat shaming' crap & I'm just being a shallow bitch, I'm not even referring to appearance or vanity really at all. I absolutely agree that for him to gain close to 100lbs right in front of his players, it really sends a message that evidently the coach isn't very serious about conditioning, health, etc. or being in good competitive shape, so the guys don't really need to be concerned about it either. I understand people commonly stress eat/drink & can gain a few pounds when under pressure, but it seems this went a bit beyond that, & really doesn't set a great example for the players. Anyway, hopefully, he'll be successful in dropping the weight, especially since now he has a kid who I'm sure he wants to be healthy for. ... And hopefully, Coach M & his people will be much more stringent & strict about conditioning.

As Spurrier always said when asked why he was on the treadmill so much... "How can you as the Head coach tell these guys to run all those laps and sprints and stay in shape if you're not in shape yourself?"

Putting on a lot of weight when you are younger is fine. When I was a kid I could not put on weight to save my life. I had the metabolism of a shrew evidently and barely, just barely, made it into the military for height and weight requirements (I was actually too tall by about 6 inches but the folks at the MEPS told me to slouch and measured me again to sneak me in).

Then, when I turned 24, my body decided... welp I can take it easy now and I gained forty pounds in a year. Over the next two or so years I gained a total of about a hundred pounds, more or less what I weigh right now 20 years later. Its not a bad weight for my height.

That is one thing, and from what I understand it isn't uncommon, especially for young tall people, its another to put on that much weight, that quickly, when you are middle aged. Bielema was in his 40s when he put on a hundred pounds or more of weight.

You have to wonder if all that extra weight sapped his energy.
