You can cheat by fashioning a large hook to the end of a stick and tying a red flag on it. Wave it in front of their hole and they'll attack. A lot less dangerous.

Lot easier to jug fish and and I catch a lot more dynamiting creek beds or using yo-yos.

ON the noodling, fishing...
I used to do a lot of hoop nets, trammel nets, and snag lines river fishing. Caught some big ones.
If you want some big cats, buffalo, etc. Take a two hook set, put cotton seed cake in between on a trot line. The cake will last several days for bait and the suckers will hang themselves. Makes for a pretty good fish fry.

Like I say, no matter, but I guess I just assumed all this time you're a dude, but the past couple of days, I've been thinking your avi is a Hog purse, then just realized a little while ago after I decided to actually see what I'm looking at, I put on my glasses, & realize it's not a handbag but a lock. I always use 3-4 inch live bluegill for catfish bait. Contrary to popular belief cats are not just attracted to smells but fish in distress, they are predatory fish. Thats why people catch them on crank baits. A bluegill on the hook sends out a lot of vibrations and has caught me freezers full of blues/flatheads.
