Contractually, Jimbo has the upper hand. If he doesn't quit, FSU would have to fire him to keep him from coaching Saturday, and that would put Jimbo's buyout in play. FSU could counter that Jimbo has violated the provision in his contract which bars him from negotiating with another school, but a lawsuit over this would be the last thing FSU would want.

So, I think it comes down to whether the FSU president, who gets along with Fisher, can persuade Jimbo that his desire to finish the season out, and avoid his first losing season, isn't worth the blowback he, and the team, will get from the fans. I can understand Fisher wanting to finish out, and thinking last week that this might be doable, but given the way things have played out, it's time to move on.
