The problem is, like many memes and Internet jokes, it is based in partial truth and accuracy only to conform to the purpose or intent of the overall message.
Question: Do you think being conference champion should trump anything else on a resume for playoff consideration?
Answer: "I think I could answer the question better if you gave me a specific scenario. I think that being a conference champ is certainly a significant accomplishment for any team or any program.
"I also think that sometimes there are circumstances that a team can play really, really well for an entire season, and are we basing the playoff on the whole body of work that a team does throughout the year in terms of all the teams they've beat, the quality opponents they played against, or is it just about one game? And when you talk about conference championships, if you play a conference championship some leagues don't even have conference championships. So, it's not sort of a fair and equitable way to base that particular group that didn't play a conference championship, so you're doing the whole body of work. Then it seems a little more reasonable to look at everyone else's entire body or work when you decide who the best teams are.
"Hey, we won a national championship here and didn't win the SEC. I mean, I think, in that particular year, LSU and Alabama had the two best teams, so we had to play in the regular season. We played 9-6. Forty-two guys, somebody wrote an article, played in the NFL that played on the field that day. So, they were two really, really good teams. Well, both teams in the same division couldn't go to the conference championship. So, we end up playing in the championship game. So is that the right thing or the wrong thing? I'm sure everybody could debate that. But, I believe those were the two best teams. So, it depends on what that goal is."

You don't win your conference, this means automatically you're not the best team ON THE FIELD. Alabama did not win their conference.
What Saban and others are doing is arguing that teams should be admitted to the play-offs based on PAPER. Football is not played on paper, otherwise we would just give the NC to bama every year (since they are #1 in recruiting every year). Why play the game at all if you're just gonna award people championships based on paper?

Auburn wasn't the best team on the field TWICE this year. Think they still deserve to be in?

That’s a lot of typing for me not to read

Is that right? So OSU will have proven they’re the best team “ON THE FIELD” with their 31 point loss to an unranked team just a few weeks ago?
Makes so much sense.

Auburn would kick Bamas arse again and I have no dog in this fight.

Correct. No one is arguing Bama is the best team on the field. Just one of the four best on the field

No he is saying base it on the entire body of work

Right. He is saying base it on their accomplishments on the field

Who is awarding Bama a championship?

Not sure what you're arguing. This has nothing to do with OSU.
All conferences have a system setup to determine conference champs. Two divisions, with the two teams with the best records facing off in a championship game. This is the system the SEC started and all other conferences agreed to adopt. It makes ZERO logical sense to say you didn't win your conference but deserve to play for the national title.
Either do away with conference titles or accept that if you don't win your conference you do not deserve to get in. Yes it sucks that some conferences are much weaker and therefore will have worse teams get in, but it is what it is. No matter how you arrange conferences, there's always gonna be weak divisions/conferences. The NFL has much more parity across divisions than CFB has between conferences. It isn't fair, but I prefer the game to be won on the field, not on paper or in recruiting rankings.
