Seems kind of strange?

None of the major permanent cross-divisional rivalries have met
Not that strange.

Not really. There are lots of SECCG match-ups that have never happened.

Teams that win their division typically have one, maybe two conference losses. One of the two permanent cross-divisional opponents will get a loss. One more from a team in the same division or maybe they get a tough draw from the other division, and they're most likely not going to Atlanta.
EDIT - Just going back to 2010, only 2016 Florida had two conference losses and 2010 South Carolina had three. Everyone else had one or less.
EDIT 2 - 2007 had Tennessee and LSU with two. 2005 Georgia had two. 2002 Arkansas had three but only went because Alabama is a bunch of cheaters.
Point is, most only have one or less, and one of the two permanent opponents is guaranteed one. Not far fetched to think that they'll catch another.

That would be cool if LSU and Vanderbilt played a SECCG

The closest we came was probably 05. Au beats uga in sanford and finishes 7-1 (lost TB to lsu).

Yeah maybe we should get rid of permanent cross divisional rivalries.

This is the first time that permanent rivals have ever met in the title game, so no.
