The committee consistently does a horrible job. There is no baseline and the bcs ranking system with a 4 team playoff would be much better. But they want control to create big matchups (see Clemson and miami's ranking this week) as well as to have something to discuss week in and week out.
I love the playoff but the committee is horrible and when they start expanding the playoff it will be the beginning of the end of college football as we know it. Enjoy it while it lasts

Since most of these teams are going to sort themselves out anyway, what’s wrong with building the hype with these SEC and ACC schools being ranked highly and maybe getting a few more casual fans involved? There isn’t such a huge difference in these teams where it’s just blatant where they’re ranked anyway. We’re all arguing about one or two places in the rankings. Irrelevant.
The more eyeballs the better.

Miami and Clemson belong in the top 4 regardless so how can you blame the committee for “creating” that matchup?
