Punt formations question

I don't particularly care for our punt formation where we have 3 large players with little speed serve as protection wall.
If it is such a great advance, why do we not see the same formation on Sunday?
having slower players on a coverage unit creates a mismatch. AU has struggled covering punts from this formation.
Is it related to hashmarks being wider than NFL? Are the punters slower in their process of kicking?

It makes punts harder to block, especially since leaping has been made illegal. Even in a tradition pint formation you’ve likely got a few slow guys out there anyway.

What I always wanted to see is to use it as a running formation. Put an outstanding punt returner like a Javier Arenas (yeah, I've been wanting it a long time) back to take the snap. Teach him to throw simple screens and to kick the ball 20-25 yards, then go at it.
Depending on the variation of formation, he would have 2-3 waves of blockers, and plenty of room to pick up steam and see the rush before first contact.
Maybe it wouldn't work... but then again...
