Interesting angle to a possible Gruden to Vols scenario

The new signing period moves everything way, way up. If the Gruden thing is real, Tennessee (and Gruden if he's coming) are going to want to make this official and start recruiting ASAP.
Usually this wouldn't be possible since the hired coach would be in his own job, but while Gruden has responsibilities, you have to think they'd find a way out of that.

since he has not recruited in the majority of his football life I see him going back to the pros before college.

Gruden will be sitting in a box next weekend with Mr & Mrs Lawrence as he speaks to his QB for next annum

Tennessee should have gotten rid of Butch a month ago if they were concerned about the early signing period. They delayed the inevitable and it will cost them this year. The fans knew more than the administration in this case.

Problem is, unless you are hiring a guy who is not currently a coach (like Gruden), what good in regard to the signing period would that have done? They aren't going to get Dan Mullen to leave State in mid-October.
That's the other issue with Gruden and the signing period. Even if they get him on board he won't have any assistants because in all likelihood they currently coach somewhere else.
Will just be interesting to watch, because it's a whole new angle.

I agree with some of that.but wasting time like this has killed them. They could have been doing damage control with kids a month ago or more than starting this late. The football program has been in limbo since the start of the season, for the most part.

That's very true. The last 3 weeks were not helpful for anything or anybody.

I still don’t see him going back to college either.

Once they got slammed by Georgia, everyone knew what needed to happen, but the administration just pissed around instead of pulling the trigger and getting out in front of this search. Showing recruits leadership and instilling confidence would have gone a long way, but they didn't do that. I really don't understand

I just don’t see it .... Give up 6.5 million for a gravy job that allows for multiple side jobs such as his gruden camp during the combine .
For the pressure of winning at a college who’s state probably averages 2 quality players per year ...
But good luck ...
I remember everyone saying Saban would never come to BAMA but he did ...

2 decent recruits a year? Somebody doesn't follow recruiting.
