My only thing with Patterson is he always goes for the deep pass even when the WR is in triple coverage, and he loves to run around in the backfield like Manziel even when he could easily run 2 yards and get the 1st down.

I think that has cost us some games and I'm not convinced a healthy Patterson would have won the Kentucky game.

Ta'amu will take the short passes, he'll dump it off to the RB, he'll run for the couple yards for the 1st down.

He has played better than Shea by doing less than Shea would try to do.

There was a reason Ta'amu was the backup and Shea was the starter and it wasn't stars. Coaches aren't going to sit the better player down. At least not the better player based on their evaluation in practice. Shea's outings were against Bama and Auburn to name a few. Ta'amu wouldn't have had good games against that bunch. California wasn't bad either we now know. That said, you can't take anything away from what Ta'amu has done. He's performed better than any backup could have possibly been asked to. In fact, the backup label, I'll no longer use. He would have been the starter at most places.
