Can't believe I am about to say this

Luke Del Rio needs to start for UF the remainder of the year.
It sounds crazy, because I was so against him playing over Franks. However; last night showed why he needs to be the starter.
Franks has the arm talent, but doesn't understand the offense, how to read blitz packages, and how to audible.
Del Rio, for all his faults, is a very good game manager. He is the reason UF came back. He shifted the line, recognized and made sure blitzers where picked up, and changed plays at the line.
The major issue with our offense has always been it's a very complex scheme. Our coaches had no ability to dumb it down for the players they had. Del Rio, with his noodle arm, actually understands the offense.
Franks starred down receivers, did not recognize the blitz, did not audible runs away from the strong side of the defense.
So. I would like to formally apologize to Del Rio for my blasting him. For all his weaknesses, the kid simply understands how to run the UF offense. As soon as he came in, we started moving the ball.
Don't say Kentucky isn't a good defense. They did have a top 3 rushing defense coming into the game and in the fourth UF literally ran through them. The reason was simple. Del Rio managed the game on the field and did what was needed to win.
Kid is 6-1 as a starter. His only loss was a game where he literally couldn't throw the ball because he was so injured(and shame on Mac for letting him play that hurt that was just embarrassing).
Sadly. Franks just isn't ready. Have to go with the guy who can make the offense function properly...and it's Del Rio.

I thought you guys hated him and called him a "noodle arm" every moment possible

We did. Notice I even called him noodle arm in this post lol
However; he is clearly the one who makes the offense click. In the end, that is the Qb's job. To move the ball.

Wait, I don't remember him being injured last year when we played and he definitely lost that game. I'm not saying he is the only reason, but the inability to throw downfield allowed us to utterly shut down your running game and that pretty much sealed the deal.

He had a shoulder injury in that game.

He got pulled and never played again and had surgery.
He got injured two weeks prior. He couldn't throw the ball at all...how do you not remember that. It was painfully obvious. And..well very real because he never played again and was out most of the offseason.
His arm isn't great, but he made throws all year before that game. So not like he suddenly forgot how to throw forward. Literally couldnt.

You can have a noodle arm when the other team doesn't put a defender on your receivers.

Only one of his passes had that. A five yard one. The rest of the fourth quarter you had defenders, he just moved the ball against them.

There is a reason for #Florida
So much fail. Take the win and be happy.

If Greg McElroy can win a national title, then LDR can for sure.
Franks is good and will get better. UF may need to split time between the two QBs.

He actually had a good team and coaching staff

Eh..I don't like split time. One or the other. Franks big issue is he hasn't been coached to be a QB. Del Rio, despite far less natural talent, has a father who was a pretty darn good coach. So he knows the game, and has shown it despite his weaker arm. So despite me being all aboard on Franks, to me, Del Rio is the guy who can win this year. Franks needs more time.

The best thing this Florida offense needs is a QB controversy.

I agree. Issue is it was very, very evident the offense plays better with Del Rio. So as a coach, you kind of have to make the change I think.

Neither Franks or Del Rio makes the Florida offense significantly better with Nuss calling Mickey Mouse plays. I've always been in the camp of start Franks so he can develop for the future. However it's clear that the coaching staff doesn't trust him one bit to throw anything but screen passes and 3-yd outs (and an occasional fly route along the sidelines).
Since this does nothing to help his development and he seems a little dumb to understand the playbook, frick it. Throw Del Rio back out there. At least he understands the playbook and protections. I really don't want to lose to the likes of Vandy and Missouri.

Yes but game time is what QBs need, not headset time or merely practice time. He's got to feel the heat. Even Tebow did split time work his first year. Same with Danny.

Nothing wrong with a good game manager. Saban has won national titles with a good game manager. But UF ain't Bama. They need to gamble a bit more because their coach isn't going to outcoach some of the better HCs he'll face. Even if the year becomes a loss, you'll have a young QB with a year's experience under his belt.

The problem with Del Rio is that for a "game manager" he threw a shite ton of interceptions last year.

That means he's not reading the secondary properly, or, if he's being forced, not keeping track of pass pro properly. Kinda undermines the whole point of the OP, doesn't it?

Tebow came in as a change of pace. Del Rio and Franks are both pocket Qbs. So all it does it screw up the flow of the game. Gotta go with one, and stick with it.
Trust me, I was on the Franks train all off-season. I still think he could couvery good. He is just too lacking right now and it is forcing a lot of issues we cant continue to have.
Zero issues getting calls in with Del Rio
Running game opened up because he adjusted at the line.
Reads progressions better.
Can audible pass-run by what defense shows.
I am not giving up on Franks. But what he needs to learn is hard in game. He needs one on one coaching and a constant ear piece by side in practice showing him the things he has to grasp to run this offense.
