Felony Grand Theft Charges Coming

For Antonio Callaway, Jordan Smith, and a third unnamed player. To be arrested later this week. Good riddance.
The other six appear to have paid back their school issued card debt and should be good to return to the team for Vandy as of this point. Jordan Scarlett, the most notable player outside of AC81, is expected to be back with the team. Will be good for depth and give us another, and perhaps our best weapon at running back back.
I'm glad this issue is wrapping up. The dark cloud of uncertainty is finally being removed, even if it's not a good thing that Callaway, Smith, and the third player will be gone.

You ought to know better by now that I'm gonna call bullshite without anything as little as a twitter link confirming all of this.

You cant commit fraud and only an idiot would not realize it. I know some of these players come from very low income areas...but no excuse.

What a disaster. Hopefully the part about 6 coming back is true. UF needs the depth. Hopefully they can practice and get back up to speed quickly.

The other 6 will be arrested too from what I read. 3 have hired lawyers. UF shouldn't have ticked off Huntley and the players shouldn't of been stupid. Otherwise this would have happened.

For as stupid as this incident sounds, you have to remember that these guys are just kids that have never had responsibility in their lives and most likely never had a credit card. We had some stupid scheme like this when I played at UF in the 80's. I don't even remember how it went but several guys got caught up on it because they didn't think anything was wrong or that they'd get caught. Then the police raise the ante by calling it Grand Theft when most likely it would be a misdemeanor for a normal student.
I don't know the facts here but I do know that athletes, like other students are followers by nature. If one guy gets away with it, more are sure to follow. Free Shoes U anyone? How about academic fraud by FSU among many schools where tutors take tests for the athlete? Drug scandals, money under the table, free tattoos, Pell Grant scandal, phone cards, etc. The biggest problem I've seen as an athlete was guys with time but no money in their pockets. An athletic scholarship pays for what you need but will never give you what you want? There is nothing worse than taking your girlfriend to McDonald's and asking her to pay for her meal and you're supposed to be BMOC. It's embarrassing. Walking around broke causes people to find ways of getting more money and most of the time it's not good.
Unfortunately, people do dumb shite. Football players are no different than others.

I call bullshite. Kids being kids doesn't excuse fraud and theft. This is a few poison pills hurting the team. Get the ringleaders the frick out.

Unfortunately a lot of players also spend what money they have on pot and drinking (as do a lot of teens), so they "could" be wiser....however, wise and 18-22 yr olds is not usually a part of a sentence.
I know one thing...Id rather kids hustle a little than get caught taking $$ from boosters and sending the program into a tailspin.

If we went after every student who screwed up their credit by spending money they didn't have, we wouldn't have any students. Kids have been defrauding on loans and credit cards since the beginning of credit. The only difference is that everything these guys do are plastered in the news. Like, I said, I don't know the particulars of this case but it doesn't sound like they strong armed robbed people at gunpoint. I'm not trying to excuse them either but this case sounds like a petty misdemeanor to me. Leave it to GPD and UPD to trump up the charges to something more than it probably is. If this happened in Tallahassee or Miami, it wouldn't have ever been reported most likely. Once, again, I'm not excusing them but normal students get caught up in BS everyday. We just don't hear about it and it doesn't affect us on Saturdays. People do sometimes change after their mistakes. Do you just throw them away or do you try to help rehabilitate them? It sucks seeing guys change for the good, while playing for our opponents.

I grew up in a military family, didn't have many responsibilities -- never really had much money because my parents' didn't give me any.
I sure as frick didn't even think of doing something like fraud, and I can't imagine throwing my goddamn future away for a couple hundred bucks.
This is beyond stupid, Callaway could've gone pro next year, left early. Now, if he doesn't get arrested and charged, he may never play in the NFL. It ain't about kids being kids, this is just downright retarded.
Their food, quarters and education are being paid to play a sport. They don't need to pay for their gym, they have access to so many things that you and I (I'm assuming) would fricking kill for. frick Callaway, and the rest of them if they did this.

For some reason, I think there is at least a small chance that this was a bit of urban legend type think that got out of hand, sort of like the idea of mailing a recording to yourself and not opening it would work as prima facie evidence for time of creation in a copyright case.
Someone somewhere along the line probably made note of how little investigation CC companies due when regular folks with long payment histories dispute a charge, or, like my bank, the bank just calls you and says, "Hey, this looks weird. Were you in Saskatchewan yesterday buying TVs?" You answer no, and two days later, you have your money back.
So some rocket scientist puts together the idea, "Hey, we can buy this stuff and claim it stolen. CC companies never check up on this stuff." In the case of the girl whose CC# was allegedly stolen, it could have been the same thing, and she might have even originally OK'd it. Just stupid, poorly thought out kid shite to be filed in with other BS like putting a penny in your mouth will throw a breathalyzer or pulling out is a good way to keep from knocking your girl up.
Obviously, I don't know that, but it wouldn't come as a shock to me if these bozos thought this was a winning plan based off some really crappy logic and actually never honestly thought about just how illegal what they were doing was. I had some friends in high school that stole a Ronald McDonald statue and ended up charged with grand theft. They knew it was wrong, but they didn't know it was that serious; just never crossed their mind. They all turned out to be good citizens despite having to plead a felony GT charge to a misdemeanor and really only doing so because a very serious crime happened in my sleepy hometown that suddenly made making an example of a bunch of stupid 18-year-olds seem not very important.
So I'm kind of holding off on deciding they are all terrible human beings just yet, but I do think Callaway has played his last game at UF.

The fact that callaway has had at least 5+ run ins with the law and is still on the team pisses me off. I guess he's one of Mac's guys so Mac goes easy on him. Weed, busted for driving on a suspended license 3x and credit card fraud. Smh.

He won't be by the end of the week

There's no doubt in my mind they knew what they were doing. Otherwise it wouldn't have so widespread. Smith is being investigated twice. A man's actions tell you if he's a good man.

Lets move on without these clowns.
We have talent at the skill positions and more are lining up to follow.
M Davis makrs me not miss JS, and our wr corps is solid.

You're lucky to know such black and white people. Personally, I find such aphorisms to be a bunch of reductionist hogwash. I've worked with probably thousands of college students over the years at this point, and the small percentage I've worked with who have ever done something like this have rarely have a résumé of only bad actions. That's the whole problem with dealing with student misconduct - rarely can you ever look at a student in trouble and just say, "This kid is just an immoral a-hole."
But where you are quite lucky is apparently never having to deal with essentially horrible people who most cloak being horrible under a pile of good actions... Good lord, "A man's actions tell you if he's a good man," what a load of pablum.
Ask around about Callaway. He makes a lot of poor choices, but a lot of people who know him away from the program will tell you that he is actually a hard worker and a good student and overall a pretty good kid. I imagine that's why he has been around so long. There are apparently quite a few people that will defend him as a good kid that does stupid things rather than a bad egg that hides it behind trying to look like a good student.
Than being said, if he'd charged, I'd probably boot him too at this point. He seems unable to keep himself out of these situations, and whether he is good, bad, or both, he's hurting more people than himself with this stuff.

If the other 6 players are charged they wont be back anytime soon or until their court cases are cleared by state law I doubt UF lets them play while case gets processed.
