Well that was easy to use with Petrino but unfortunately Bert hasn't done anything stupid enough for that to be considered. That is, unless you know something and if that's the case you better spit it out, bucko.

Bert will be here until at least Jan 1 2020. The buyout is too large to pay until that date. Unless Bert decides to purchase a motorcycle.

Yes, I am aware that is a lot of losing in our future.

I guess what goes through everyone's mind is what Bielema will weigh by that point.

Could he get to Mangino proportions by then?

Wasn't aware that the UofA was in Little Rock.

If he was such a gift, then why was Louisville the only program interested after his stint with the Hilltoppers?

Depends on how much career they have left.

"Mutual decision" looks a lot better on a resume than "shitcanned".

Allow me to copypasta a post I made just a couple days ago:

"Without sounding like one of those "our AD has soooo much money" guys, the buyout is easily afforded and WILL be paid if we should really REALLY tank this season (which I'm still not sure we will, see our recent history).

What a lot of people don't realize - including a lot of Hog fans - is that his buyout is structured where our AD can pay it out all at once OR over several years, I think up to 5. His new salary, should he take a new HC position, also offsets the buyout.

You're talking $3mm / year over 5 years to make him go away (assuming he doesn't take a new position in that time frame), which isn't chump change by any means but is easily offset by renewed fan enthusiasm and some deep pocketed donors."

Bert being terminated isn't as out of reach as most fans believe, and it could very easily happen should this season be deemed an overall failure. There are intentional vaguely-worded performance clauses attached to his contract that can be exercised and most choose to ignore this aspect (along with the info in the post above) or take what they hear via gossip and run with it. The academic talk from Long is mostly window dressing, he's not as out of touch as he seems when addressing the public.

Most average folks in AR are misguided on the whole situation because the people in charge remain tight-lipped about what happens behind closed doors in the AD, which is the opposite of the Nutt/Broyles small state era that they're used to. The various boards and VIPs staying quiet used to mean that no waves were being made and all was well, however those days are no more.

This always seems to happen and I dont understand why. Coaches usually go away quietly with a reduced buyout but they have guaranteed contracts so what leverage do the universities have in these situations?

Ask Houston Nutt about dat...

i am still mystified as to how bielema's buyout got as high as it did. long seems like a somewhat intelligent individual...there was no reason for him to have such a high number for bert. total insanity.

I'm not sure why people freaked out about that so much. He didn't say anything wrong/infuriating to me.

Regarding the rest of your post- thank you, sir. That does make me feel a little better about the situation. My only fear is that if we really have another bad season how sought is Bert going to be from any other school? But spreading out the money we'd eat is still better than having to fork it out at once- not that it's coming out of my pocket directly anyway.

At the end of the day it's all going to depend on results for the entire season. In my mind the number is 9, but who knows what it is for Long...Probably only 8. There ARE things working in Bielema's favor here whether we like it or not. GPA, APR, etc will help him if he is near the cusp of what is deemed pass/fail threshold. If he dips far below said threshold, they will pull the trigger. And even if the buyout weren't structured to be paid out over 5 years, the UofA athletic department could ante up 15 if they wanted to. They're one of the more profitable departments in the country. Also, if attendance begins to take a hit, things start to look more affordable.

ETA: There are also things working AGAINST Bielema. He told Long that he would compete for an SEC title this year when he was hired. He has ran his mouth numerous times to numerous people about how kick-arse his team is...etc

Not,, he has to screw the program up first. Or he has to have an affair before he leaves. But he usually does that in the first year. So you might be right

Bret was already taking heat for they way we finished last year. As with most programs all would have been forgiven if we had come out strong and had a decent year. With the egg being laid against TCU the heat is back on. He has a wife and a new baby that he'd like to shield from all the negative that's sure to be coming his way. If we don't end up having a good year(and we won't)the heat will be unbearable(see Houston Nutt). I would bet you that his agent is putting out feelers as we speak. If the right job comes open he can agree to leave for less money and save some face, and we aren't on the hook for the entire buyout. Everybody concerned can come out of it fairly clean. This will most likely take place, unless we somehow miraculously turn the season around and win way more games than anyone ever imagined. Unlikely.

The more I reflect on what happened last weekend, the more unsure I am of how things will transpire the rest of the way this year. Member when he lost to Toledo and then went 5-3 in SEC play? This team still has a lot of talent and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they start playing a hell of a lot better than they've shown so far. Seems to be his MO. He tends to shite the bed at least once in the early season and by the end of the year they look entirely different.
