The fan reaction to early Pinkel/Odom tenure is eerily similar

Not saying Odom will end up like Pinkel, but had fans gotten their way early in GP's tenure he wouldn't have accomplished anything either.
It wasn't just a few fans either, it was prevalent. Started to get loud in yr 2. Was deafening in yr 3.
Pinkel was in over his head.
Couldn't recruit.
He was boring.
His teams played dumb.
Etc
Most of the same criticisms really.

Pinkel's second year, we beat Illinois, Kansas and A&M. We lost by 7 to #2 OU, Colorado (OT) and ISU.
If Odom does anything similar to that, he'll get another year. ETA: and he may get another year regardless.

The back end of those early teams was better coached than either of the last two. Walters room is killing the defense on 3rd down.

He also lost to bowling green and big losses to Texas Tech and Kansas State.
GP was given a chance to figure out coaching in a P5 conference.
Nothing BO has done this year says that he should get another year, but also nothing says he shouldn't.

His "big loss" to Tech was two TDs on the road. Now post something else.

38-0 to Kansas State and gave up over 50 points to Texas Tech

Of course it has. He's hired coaches who get into fights with players. He's hired a lame duck DC that got his duties taken away last season and was still kept around this year.
Players leaving. Recruits bowing at. Blame the protests all you want, his D idea was a flop last year. Didn't have his players ready for MoSt.
Doesn't hold players accountable for on-field nonsense.
Pinkel built the program up so we wouldn't have to suffer through a drawn out rebuild again.
And here we are. Rebuilding with a guy in over his head. Only in the SEC rather than the Big 12. I really don't get the Barry homers. If he wasn't a Mizzou guy like Anderson, you wouldn't be supporting him .

GPs last team was 5-7. It was going to have to be rebuilt.
A more proven coach probably could do it faster than BO, but those coaches didn't want the job. If BO is given similar chances he can be successful. And if not there's a great chance he's a DC at a blueblood school the first year after he leaves Mizzou.

Eh. I suspect some of them just have an authoritarian bent and would say the same about any coach.
To some extent the ones who are taking a wait-and-see approach are right. Odom isn't going to be fired midseason. And unless we are just awful the whole season, he probably won't be fired.
On the other side, the fans lamenting the state of our program aren't upset that we are one and one. It's that it looks like we are going to be a bad football team again this year. I thought our team showed a lot of progress in the last few games of last year. But here we are in the next year reliving the previous year

My issue has nothing to do with the talent, it has to do with the team being unprepared and poorly coached. The special teams are a complete disaster and have been since Odom took over.
Defensive schemes last year and in the first game this year were horrendous.
This team doesnt need a rebuild. You have a great OLine, a 4 star QB, future NFL RB, and plenty of weapons at WR to score more than 13 points.

He's a good DC although that doesn't mean he will be a DC at a blueblood within a year of not being here if that happens. I would bet against it.
He knows football and you can hear it when he talks, but there is a big difference in being a HC and a DC. I like some of the things he has done, but when it comes to taking the lead and being the man in charge it hasn't happened yet. He hasn't built an effective staff, he hasn't gotten control of his staff, the whole nepotism thing with his brother pisses me off and probably pisses his staff off also.
His team plays undisciplined. He talks about how the team that beat us is well coached, but why are we never well coached? He knows enough about what needs to happen to be a good coach, but his managerial skills are shite at the P5 level and as 808 pointed out they will only improve if he takes everything he thinks he knows about managing a football team and throws it away.
He should have learned this at a mid-major but apparently, we didn't have much of a choice. He'll get the rest of this season at a minimum to figure it out, but I hope Sterk has him on a very short leash. I'm betting he does.

The OL was awful the year before BO took over. Elarbee was a fantastic hire.
Crockett was recruited after after BO was HC.
The best WR Johnson was recruited to Mizzou because of BO.
BO had issues to work out as a coach Cross, Wilson and Shipp were definitely not good hires.

Ok? I don't really understand the point you're making. He has the talent like I said, the team is poorly coached.

It's a little early to say Brian Odom is a bad hire.
It's funny how opinions change on Walters. BO had to elevate him to Co-DC before last year because Walters had opportunities to go be a DC at a couple mid majors.

Walters coaching trajectory prior to last year was definitely up. His position group performed poorly last year and their improvement was a major need. They have been better in run support but they aren't making many plays when the ball is in the air. They aren't making any on 3rd down.

It's only 2 games into the season. Seems a little early to say Walters is doing a bad job as a coach this year.
Purdue will be a good test of the job Walters is doing. They will challenge the DBs way more than USCe.

So what you're saying is he better get shite figured out or be gone, just like GP? I would agree. BO will probably get next year, so we can expect him to go 8-5 then?
