when we don't make a bowl game this year?

Usually we give coaches 3 years, but it's pretty obvious that BO is in way over his head. He wasn't hired by our current AD, so I don't know if that plays a factor. We've already been down this road with Kim Anderson.

I'm tremendously disappointed in our athletic department the last 4 years with the hiring of Kim Anderson and Barry Odom. You're taking about hiring two guys who had zero head coaching experience at the D1 level and bringing them into a conference like the SEC. That's just absurd. Look around and tell me how many other SEC schools are doing that.

The question is: will Sterk see progress from '16 to '17? And that may be his undoing. This team looks no better than last year's. And last year's team was no good.

I posted this awhile back: Andy Hill told someone that the coaches were informed they needed to win 8 games. That's obviously not going to happen.

By the way, Missouri State was shut out yesterday. By North Dakota. 34-0.

That isn't the Wentz North Dakota is it?

Regardless, pretty shameful indictment.

It's not ND State. It's a team that finished 3-5 in their conference last.

If 8 is the magic number, you're right, that ain't happening. Being in the SEC now, Mizzou can't keep making stupid arse hires. Cut the cord and move on at the end of the season.

Florida did it with Muschamp and it didn't work.

However, Kirby Smart has made the transition at UGA

I'm not saying Odom is the answer but do you think there was anyone that wanted to coach Mizzou when Pinkel left? It was a situation very few would want to be in if we are being honest.

Also it is pretty crazy how poorly the defense has been considering what he did at his previous stop. How long does it take to transition into his type of defense? Do you have to wait four years to see that take off when the defense you start with won't buy in?

We can say we are disappointed in the hires because they obviously didn't or haven't worked out but these weren't normal circumstances either. Was a proven better option really going to come here? Maybe, but not very likely.

After last week you tell me we give up 31 points to South Carolina I'd say I would be happy. With our type of offense I'd say giving up 31 points to anyone should be a very winnable game. Does Odom even do anything with the offense? Or should we be blaming the OC more so?

Not with Rhoades doing the coaching search and two feet out the door.

This game was not as close as the score indicated. This is a 2015 team in reverse. In 2015, coaches knew they could kick three field goals and win. This year, run two jet sweeps and win.

I still think BO is going to be a really good HC, just not sure if it's at Mizzou. Fans here have too March PTSD from KA to give BO the same opportunity that was given GP.

I still think Mizzou can win 6-7 games this season.

What probably happens is BO is fired. Goes to Texas A&M as the DC with the new coach. He has some great defenses there. Then gets a real shot somewhere else, and is successful. Then 10 years from now is the HC at a blueblood school.

They can. But they won't. 5 is our ceiling.

Sterk has made a number of comments that if read together says he needs to win a minimum of 6 games. And really it's probably more like 7. Sterk has shown he has no trouble pulling the trigger and with the money that is on the line I'll bet the leash is much shorter than you might think. Sterk has also shown he does it sensibly. There won't be any mid-season firings, he will line up his search and take care of it when the season is over. Which is very likely to happen given how this team looks

Could happen. He's just not a HC now. And he got a real shot here.

Georgia, Auburn and Florida are the only games I think Mizzou can't win.
Vandy, Kentucky and Arkansas haven't looked great, but those are road games. Mizzou will have to get one of these games to get to 6 wins.

We lose to KY and ARK. He's done. I believe the AD is building a search committee behind the scenes.

I think the bigger problem for Mizzou is the first 2-3 recruiting classes after the conference switch. More specifically the the attrition from those classes.
GP had a system for success. He would r d shirt players year 1. Year 2 a player was special teams only. Year 3 a player was a spot player. Then in year 4-5 players were ready for major roles.
BO is playing almost his entire recruiting class because of the attrition in the upperclasses.

Trying to recruit the south was a huge blunder. They should have stayed in Texas and kept using what worked.

GP had to take a lot of risks on recruits in those years.
PM has had a couple good articles looking at the attrition from those classes. Just look at DE for Mizzou. In consecutive year Loud, Brady and Howard have been kicked off the team. Instead of having experienced upperclassmen around Frazier, we have Harold (a walkon) and 2 true freshmen in Turner and Byers.

Copy/paste Kim Anderson discussions.

I see you still have the PTSD from KA.
