I've been around here a long time. I know that he was always first to defend Sumlin. He was essentially Sumlin's Mike McKenzie.

He certainly had a stake in us winning, and it would have been easier on all of us for sumlin to be the guy.

No, he just had a more positive outlook and had no time for the idiotic hot takes that this and every other message board loves to gobble up and treat as facts.

I can guarantee you he sees the writing on the wall for Sumlin after that trash last night but he is also willing to at least let the season play out. That's a fair way to look at things. You may not like it but it is fair.

There is always the off, off, off, off, off, OFF chance that this loss somehow galvanizes the team and they turn things around. But the fact of the matter is A&M hasn't publicly fired a HC in the middle of the season since Emory Bellard in 1978 (and even he was allowed to "resign") and they aren't going to break that streak to can a guy after game one of the season no matter how much it's deserved. If he gets fired midseason it will be at the bye week but don't be surprised at all if they wait until after the LSU game.

Either way, barring a miraculous season that nets 9 regular season wins w/2 victories out of Florida, Auburn, LSU, Alabama he is gone and everyone knows it at this point.
