I know Boehm started as a freshman, but not sure he did on opening day?

Yeah but he didn't start the season as one.

Aldon Smith played as RS Freshmen

Aarion Penton filled in for an injured E.J Gaines as a true freshmen. I'm trying to remember any others.

Pinkel wasn't much of a true freshmen player. I'm sure Sheldon Richardson would of started if he didn't have to go Juco. I'll have to look, but was Beckner Jr 1st or 2nd sring his freshmen year?

Ok just checked. Beckner started 5 of 10 games. Not sure if he was starting at the beginning of the year. I remember BYU injured him.

Just looked it up.

Mason was an "or" behind Hall.

Garrett was the #2 Mike behind Scherer.

Jordan Ulmer, Akiel Byers and Kobie Whiteside are my favorite defensive recruits from that 2017 class and Ulmer will cover you with those long arms and knock last month's snot out of you when he hits you.

Add the 3 LB recruits that will play this year. Brooks, Miller and Bledsoe. And the 2 CBs. And Turner at DE, I think he starts by the end of the season, or at least passes Harold in snaps. If BO is right on his evaluation of players the defense will be really good by either 2018 or 2019. There are almost 20 players on the 2 deep that are freshmen or sophomores. That's both offense and defense.

Turner at DE,

Turner transformed his body after signing day. If he is as technically advanced as some have mentioned, 3rd downs are going to be interesting when they go with 4 DEs.

Isn't Beckner fast enough to play DE?

So if whoever they have playing opposite of Frazier is struggling, then they can play Beckner there and have Utsey and Brandon play DT.

I would wait and see what we have in Turner, Byers, Harold, Smash, and Williams before moving a DT out.

Evan Boehm started every game his freshman year; horrible injuries and depth problems on the O-line all that season. He is the only true freshman O-lineman Gary Pinkel ever started in his coaching career.

Wasn't B. Smith a true freshman starter in 2002?

Smith was 17 as a true freshman, so would have been about the same age as Ulmer.

This was the only thing that kept GP from putting him on the field.
