1. South Carolina is a state of less than 5 million people.

2. South Carolina shares the Palmetto State with Clemson.

3. Clemson just won a national title and historically has dominated the rivalry.

4. South Carolina is close to historically good programs like UGA, Auburn, FSU, UT, UF and Alabama that have always poached the best in-state talent.

5. South Carolina's fans will show up win or lose. There is not as much financial incentive for us to succeed as there is at other programs where the fans require sustained success.

True..but not an excuse. Good programs poach other states

True, but not an excuse..Clemson Thrives but not the expense of South Carolina. Especially being in the "SEC" with all of the "SEC Money" that is constantly projected on everyone.

Not an excuse either....but thanks for the recognition.

Then poach theirs! It has to work both ways....

This is the most spot on assessment. Contentment (or complacency) with the status quo seems to be it has always been with USC. Their are a lot of programs in money-rich conferences that are quite happy at the leadership level to take the TV and Conference money and ride the Gravy train on biscuit wheels...I think Miami got that way a long time ago and is just now getting serious about the football program again.

Also, stop hiring washed-up once great coaches that only have a few years in the tank. Coach Boom may be a good hire, but if he doesn't work out that school needs to get a blank check out to the biggest name that you can get and swing for the bleachers.

I can only hope that, if nothing else, the success we had under Spurrier does stick within the fan base's collective mind deep into the future. That it shows we don't have to be stuck in a perennial 6-6, 7-5, 4th in the East position.

Unfortunately, I think historical apathy also contributed a great deal to this

Clemson and SC have reacted very differently to defeat to the other over the rivalry's series from what I understand.

But if Clemson can do it, there's no reason we can't. Both pour plenty of money into the football program. SC and Clemson are fully committed to the facilities arms race, they share the same recruiting ground against similar recruiting competition etc.

Right coaching, right timing is all it takes to get that extra nudge.

On a different note, Vols fans still talking shite after their winless record vs Muschamp streaked on last year?
