It all comes down to coaching (this includes recruiting). A&M isn't consistently great because we don't have consistently great coaching.

I think it all comes down to this.

(There are three schools that to me have a recruiting advantage - Notre Dame just because of all the damn Catholics, and the two LA schools because SoCal poontang.)

I don't even think your "premier conference" has a big effect.

It's a coach's ability to convince players that he's got something worth buying into and his ability to continue to motivate those players and make good game day decisions.

Anything else is just about preferences about irrelevant shite (close to home? weather? small college town?) that all gets cancelled out.
