Yup, that's just a huge blow. I don't know that Sparks and Petry are physically ready to play SEC football. Specifically Petry, he's small.

Stribling has just kind of been here for awhile. Who knows on Alton, but he's not very big either.

That all on top of Cheadle just not being very good.

I almost wonder if we may see Hilton get some time at CB also.

Does Hines move back from S?
Or maybe Warren from LB/N?
Hilton is probably athletic enough to help provide CB also. He may be better suited to play there?

Yeah, like I said I think Hilton is the most likely to move if we are moving anyone and TBH I'd prefer giving him some run there than some of these other guys we already have at the position.

I know it's not ideal as he has not practiced there, but he should know the responsibilities anyway being a safety.

I hope they try it

Glad we're not in the old big 12 with this thin secondary. We better be sacking alot.

According to BO in the link Stribling, Alton and Sparks have all had really good camps. I'm not sure I buy that all 3 are ready for a major role.

Yeah, IDK either. I really like Sparks and think he has a bright future but IDK if it's right now.

Well, we are going to find out I suppose.

This

and this

Missouri’s Christian Holmes to miss significant time

are not the same

He could miss the year but that's TBD

Have you ever heard a coach not said a player has had a good camp, let's be honest, we're totally screwed at CB.

I think Mizzou will be ok, as long as Acy and Cheadle stay healthy. The third CB hasn't really played extensively under BO.

Witter and Frazier apparently with injuries too. Witter with a hammie and Frazier with a strained quad.

Cheadle isn't any good though and Holmes was definitely going to play a lot if not take over the starting spot from Cheadle early in the year.

When Cheadle plays toast out there we are going to have to go to somebody else and who is that going to be now.

Like I said, I hope they move Hilton to CB. I feel more comfortable with him out there than any of these other guys.

BO said that Holmes might be back before the end of the season. There's a chance.

I'd love to see what Hilton can do there. Otherwise we are really thin.

Here is a response from Matter on the Holmes injury:
quote:

It's not a make or break injury for this team. He most likely wasn't going to start, at least not to begin the season. Logan Cheadle's had a good offseason. The staff has liked the progress of Jerod Alton and Finis Stribling. It hurts the depth not having a young corner they expected to play, but it's not going to ruin the season.

I hoped Holmes would take control of the spot as well. I am interested to see how they are lining up the secondary. Cheadle isn't a guy you can leave alone on the boundary.

IDK. It takes a pretty big leap of faith to believe that Cheadle somehow turned himself into a passable SEC corner. I've seen him play a lot of football and he would have had to take a massive jump to get there.

I don't think it ruins the season either, but I do think Matter and most here are underselling the impact.

There's no evidence that any of the CBs are that type of player. Acy made a few plays last year that make me think he could be, but that's far from a guarantee.

I still think we are just hoping for a serviceable defense. I think we can get that. If the Dline can create havoc, that helps the back end out a bunch. Last year was a cluster, for many reasons, from scheme to position. If this D is just serviceable, that takes us to a bowl and one or two upsets. That's a 7-5 to 8-4 season with an upset or two.

This is a 6-6 bowl team at least. I think we all want more than that and have emotionally committed ourselves to 7-5 are afraid of less and worried we won't have more.

We just don't know what this D is going to be. Most likely it's weak on the back end early and gets better. Sets up nicely at the end of the season against weaker opponents.

I'm trying to be as positive as I can right now.

It's one game at a time this year
