Agree. Guys at the professional level generally don't "learn" to be patient hitters and pitchers don't usually "learn" how to be precise pitchers. They may slightly improve, but you don't see many guys go from wild to precise. Honestly, the best example of a guy gradually fixing that is Folty. His transformation from right handed Newcomb to a guy who basically throws strikes is pretty incredible. He still has issues, but he's greatly improved that one.

I still think Newcomb ends up being a 8th inning reliever ala Andrew Miller (not necessarily that good, obviously), but we'll see.

It's not all that unusual for guys to improve their BB/9 over their first few years. I personally see Newcomb has a good 3/4 guy in a rotation, not a frontline starter. If we can get him down to 3-4 BB per start, we'll be in good shape.
