Odom days his practice is the best hes seen since coming back to Mizzou.

Hopefully TBJ stays healthy and can anchor the Dline

Slot WR getting thin

Clark transferring and Wingo is academically ineligible. That leaves Johnson and Floyd...and some walk ons.

I could see Mason sliding to the inside sometimes

This recruiting class needs to pick up some receivers.

I agree with Matter on the TEs. Culkin was a different player last year. After struggling to hang onto the ball for the 1st 3 years he led the team in catch rate and was the most reliable option on 3rd down. Its a shame that Lock didn't target him more. Finley knows his craft.

I hope that Strong responds to Downing being in front of him. There isn't a back on the roster that has his burst into the second level.

I thought I just read where we're 5 deep for the slot

5 deep with walk-ons and a fill-in who will end up at another position.

And even if we are OK this season, we run the risk of having a huge hole there in a couple of seasons.

We do not want a repeat of 2015 at any position, much less receiver again.

Might be able to hide a position where you don't have any functional players if you are in the MAC, Mountain West, or maybe even Big 12. But you are not going to in the SEC.

OK I thought I read something like that but didn't remember the particulars.

I think we're OK receiver-wise

Heupel could flex Reese and keep Blanton attached and still present a huge mismatch inside the hash. There are ways around this.

Damn. Did not know Wingo was ruled ineligible this year. That sucks.

I'm not sure I'd say we're "fine" at WR or not. We're not any worse off IMO. JJ was going to get a vast majority of the snaps. Floyd was going to be next in line. Now if we have an injury, we obviously don't have as much depth but I think Mason could move to the slot and I think either Hall or Brown, at one time, was working in the slot at one time.

I didn't know that Wingo was deemed ineligible. I thought that he was in summer school trying to become eligible. Oh well!
Nate Brown and Collins should pick up that slack and Collins has some good hands and the word is that he has been impressive in camp and he wasn't bad in the spring game.

The way I read it as that he could still come back, but had to finish some classes. Maybe not.

I think we'll be ok. Johnson and Floyd were going to be the top two. Mason can play the slot. Nuke made a good point about Reese flexing out. I think we could see a bit of that.

I could see them flexing both TEs inside the red zone in between the 10 and 20. You get a 260 lb guy running back inside at a 2nd level defender with the guard pulling to clear the edge, you can give Crockett a lot of room to operate. There is a lot to look forward to on that side of the ball.

Smith could develop into a good red zone target this year as well.

Running a Spot scheme with Smith, Reese, and Blanton would be tough to defend provided Smith develops.

Emmanuel Hall looked very polished in the spring game but I haven't heard much out of him.

If they come up with a decent answer to their DB issues this team could be sneaky good. Like 9-3 sneaky good

I haven't heard much on Smith. I was excited to have a 6'7" receiver to tower over defenders. But, I haven't heard anything on him. I guess he's "green" and needs to develop. Anyone have anything on him?

Smith had a knee injury that really limited him last year

The front 7 is a major part of having a decent answer. The front 4 moving the QB off his spot and having a WLB that can control the backside b gap and still play to side line makes any secondary look solid. It keeps the SS from having to fly into the box to take on an untouched ball carrier. That hole at WLB created a lot of conflict for the safeties and resulted in numerous long plays.

I have high expectations of Hall. I thought he was underrated as a recruit. He plays as I think he will and it will free Walters up to do several different things with the back end of the defense.

Or vice versa.....Blanton at 6'6" is a mismatch against anyone.
