That K State loss also saved the BCS's bacon. Had they won, I think there was going to be 3 undefeated teams and since it was the innaguaral year of the BCS that ensuing controversy would have been a major black eye.
Heck, it could have ended the BCS all that much sooner.

If you're going to make that argument, you can't leave out Miami over UCLA that year as well.
