Sounds like they should have taken the BS approach Bama took back then and scheduled 7 conference games when everybody else was playing 5
Yep. Bama should have dropped Tennessee and MSU and replaced them withpowerhouses like Marion Military Institute and Carlisle.

That was a common theme for the SEC for years. A good example is 1950.
Kentucky won the SEC title with a 5-1 record. Tennessee went 4-1.
UK fans claim a national title for an 11-1 season which included a win over AP/UPI champion Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. UK lost their final regular season game to Tennessee.
Tennessee also claims the 1950 title because they did win over UK. They lost early in the season. They won the Cotton Bowl over Texas.
Tennessee finished higher in the polls to Kentucky. UK has the SEC title because of 1 more conference win, but Tennessee has more of a claim to the national title because of head-to-head, higher Poll finish, and having more selectors favoring them.
