that Notre Dame team may have been the best team in the country that year. They had beaten Marquette, 69-63 and ended UCLA's 88 game winning streak.

But Michigan got hot at the right time, having beaten Indiana in a one game playoff to determine the Big 10 representative. They got out to a huge lead on Notre Dame.Notre Dame caught them, but seemed to run out of gas and Michigan won 77-68.

Those damn Marquette street kids (Bo Ellis, Lloyd Walton & Co.) just found a way to win. I think that they were the first basketball team that I'd seen wear their jerseys out of their pants....looked like real thugs, but could play the hell out of basketball!
