I don't believe any such thing, I just don't see how the 1st Amendment applies here. Yeah, yeah, A&M is a public institution. But that doesn't mean they can't have rules concerning who may use their facilities. That's not what the 1st Amendment is about. If the A&M campus cops followed Spencer around the county and prevented him from speaking *anywhere*, I'd get it. My guess is that your city government in Houston does similar things with city-owned facilities. And they should.

You know by that line of reasoning, a state legislature would be within their rights to fire any and all public university employees who took a stand on issues they disagreed with.

You know, like global warming say. But I forget.

The first amendment is about what you want it to be, when you want it to be about be so. And you will conveniently see it another way when that is to your advantage.

And what's most special, is that you will see no hypocrisy in it.

Who got fired? But it isn't comparable, anyway. Unless some sort of ethics violations are involved, the state legislature would (and should) be in a world of hurt in your example.

Well, no. Not really. It seems pretty clear to me.

quote:

Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Nobody is "abridging the freedom of speech" with the new rules at A&M.
