Spencer Williams is also planning on transferring closer to home. So headed back to Florida.

Leaving Texas for the southeast really was a mistake.

This has to be a record.

Leaving Walker alone in Texas was the biggest issue, IMO. Sending Grinch to Atlanta and Jacksonville was the right thing to do long term.

You will get a few injuries each spring unfortunately.

The thing for schools like Arkansas and Missouri is that while our starters can hold their own with just about anyone we lack the depth to just roll another 4 or 5 star talent in if someone gets hurt.

So injuries to starters in the spring and summer have a disproportionate effect on us compared to someone like Bama who can shrug and plug in their next player.

The hardest thing in college football isn't winning games, its building depth to be able to win games.

We should have continued to use Texas as regular recruiting grounds that doesn't have anything to do with Spencer Williams or Blair or Zanders who have left in that area.....they just knew their playing time was limited. This happens a lot when players realize they are not going to play

Given the overall quality of the 2013 and 2014 instate classes it would have made more sense to take advantage of established relationships in Texas and ease into the new footprint. There were definitely a couple of difference makers in each class (Elliott in 2013 and Johnson in 2014), but there has been some severe roster attrition in the first 2 classes since the move. This is the class data on 247:

10 of 19 from the 2013 class are never made it to campus or left before their eligibility was exhausted.

13 of 29 players in 2014.

6 of 23 players the 2015 class have left the program.

Some attrition is to be expected. When your program is built on development, losing 41% of your players isn't acceptable.

A big part of the reason Bert's first season was a disaster at Arkansas (and the second was nothing to write home about) was that Petrino's last few classes were hovering north of a fifty percent attrition rate.

If someone got tired or, God forbid, injured all we could do is hope and pray that the walk on we threw in there was a diamond in the rough.

As you can guess by our record that usually was not the case.

Speaking of recruiting is the 2018 class still looking strong for Missouri? I remember some folks talking about it a few months ago.

Depends on your parspective. On the positive side there is a bunch of top notch prospects and 2 to 3 elite prospects in our own home state. Bad side being we have only 1 juco verbal and objectively don't have MUch to objectively hang our hats on regarding even any strong "leans" from our unusually strong fb recruits already playing in and around the state of Missouri.

On the bright side, our BB recruiting is strong with a positive and also reasonable expectation that it may end as ELITE

There's more that 2-3 elite recruits from Missouri in this class.

There's probably 25-30 D1 prospects in the class.

Not going to disagree with your numbers regarding D1 prospects which probably includes mid major talent. I would say, that there are probably around 12 or so that have the potential to excel in a power 5 environment. This number would still be an unusually bumper crop of home state talent.

In referring to "Elite" I set the bar at in or near the top 100 nationally.

ESPN uses 300 in using elite status
247 & Rivals use 250

I would say Missouri will have 6-7 in that range.

Touche, perhaps I should use "super elite" Regardless of the numbers or where the bar is set, it does not change the fact that we lack even a "soft verbal" or strong lean from anyone noteworthy.
