I'm saying that Howland could be successful at State and is bringing in talent there. Mizzou isn't the kind of program that has the stature right now that can just cherry pick from other programs that would be a lateral move at the moment.

I mean, why would Howland leave State right now when he's able to recruit well there (look at what he has coming in) just to start from scratch all over again? Out of the last three coaches at Mizzou, only Mike Anderson went to an Elite Eight a decade ago there. Even Stansbury consistently made the NCAA Tournament at State and he's not the coach that Howland is.
Maybe if he was coming out of the unemployment pool, but at this point it's a lateral move for him. Especially given the issues off the court with the University.

Eh, they both have to compete with the same teams in conference and Howland has a head start with the talent he's recruiting.

Not at all. You think a liberal school like Mizzou isn't a ripe target for drama under the current administration when some of their education changes come down the pipeline? And that it won't spill over to athletics? I'm thinking bigger picture.

Belle, Mizzou being a liberal school does not hurt Mizzou(if that is even the case). Most young people are extremely liberal and most African Americans are liberal. With St Louis and KC next door, you'd be dumb to believe State is a better job. That's not even touching Mizzou Arena and how good of a arena it is.
