Big Mistake

If Ole Miss fires Huge Freeze. He is the best coach they have had since Johnny Vaught, and they will not do any better than him. Firing him to try to appease the NCAA is a big mistake, ask Auburn if it helped firing Pat Dye. Hiring another coach to ride out sanctions worked well with Tuberville. They need to let him ride out any NCAA sanctions and move on afterwards. I think they would have lost him to a better program in the near future if this hadn't happened, so make this a silver lining issue.

He just screwed them out of probably 2 years worth of bowl money (about 15 mil). Plus set them back for years to come as they will lose a lot of scholarships. He had one good year there. Clearly wasn't worth it.

Disagree, better to just cut ties now. A big reason for his success was those recruiting classes. I highly doubt he will be able to get classes like that or close to after this ordeal.

Freeze is just ole miss' version of chizik. A coach that lets the boosters loose rules be damned.

He outcoached Saban in his two wins against them, so it wasn't based on talent alone. Ole Miss has made enough facility improvements the last few years to take a short term hit on revenue. Ole Miss needs to look at the long term effects of firing him.

He has also been out coached against lesser talent.

Short hit on revenue? You think the one year bowl ban is all they are going to get?

While I think overall Freeze is one of the better coaches they have had, you are going to take a harder hit from the NCAA for keeping him. It is going to take 3-5 years to recover from the scholorship hit alone. If the NCAA adds another year on the bowl ban which I think is fairly likely, you open the door for transfers.

Maybe not, but Bowl Revenue is a drop in the bucket in the overall revenue sharing system the SEC has in place. Plus history shows that the SEC usually reimburse schools after they show compliance.

The NCAA hasn't shown mercy on any school that fired a coach. Freeze wasn't named in any of the issues, so he hasn't been labeled with "Show Cause" tag yet. It will take 3-5 year to recover, but do you want to make it 5-10 with a mediocre Coach ? Because they are not going to get anyone any better at this point.

It's best to start over and try to win the right way.

I agree. No one good will come near that job at the moment. Freeze is a good enough coach to keep them from becoming a total shambles. He got a pretty bad team to 7-6 his first year at Ole Miss following. Nutt's last year they went 2-10 I think.

Freeze was named specifically for a level 1 violation, for violation of the head coaching responsibility rules.
It's a new day for the NCAA with that legislation. 'I didn't know about it' is no longer an excuse. Being that it is their new rule, I expect they will try to seriously enforce it to show that it isn't just window dressing.

Would they be firing him to appease the NCAA, or because he isn't good enough at covering his tracks?

I think that is going to be the standard for any violation in the future. Too many people complained that the HC used "plausible deniability" as a defense.

Thank god for that rule. Coach cal and pitino and on and on, with the "I didn't know" excuse. Do they think everyone is stupid

Bowl revenue isn't the only thing they are going to be losing these next few years.

There isn't anyway to prove this because the NCAA doesn't put out a standard list for what the punishments are going to be with/without the current coach. We are both making educated guesses but I believe the NCAA is just going to be more pissed off if they end up keeping Freeze. Is getting rid of Freeze going to solve all the issues? Of course not but I believe it will help.

The biggest separation we are having here is you believe Freeze is a better coach than I do.

Yep, that excuse doesn't fly in most other areas of life.

IF the NCAA hits them with a 2 year post season ban, players can transfer out with no penalty.

Us having a united front in our allegations video with Freeze, AD, and chancellor shows we are going down with the ship and not throwing Freeze under the bus
