Alabama produces about a third of the talent that Texas, Florida, and California do, while also sharing the state with Auburn.

Look at the top 10-12 players in the state of Alabama, see where those players rank nationally, and see where they go to college. Bama shares state with AU, but most AU fans would agree that Bama wins those head-to-head in-state battles more often than not.

I even think Bama at #1 is a stretch

more bowl wins, 10+ win seasons, and championships of any school all time. money is not a problem. facilities are incredible. cupboard is stacked. Every coach for 60 years has been able to win 10+ games at Bama (including Mike Freaking DuBose and Mike Shula). It's the top job for a number of reasons, but even if not in the opinion of some, it is in the opinion of the guy they'll target to replace Saban.

When that day comes it will be a very interesting thing. Who in their right mind would want to follow a run like that? Or step into those recruiting shoes.

Of course they do. If you go back to 2010 and look at the Top 10 kids from the state of Alabama in each of the 8 classes, here is where they signed:

51% signed with Alabama
31% signed with Auburn
18% signed somewhere out of state

Obviously Bama is winning more often than not, but they still are sharing a state with a school that is getting 30+% of the top kids from the state.

LSU, Georgia, Ohio State, and others don't have that issue to deal with.

This has been the case under Saban, especially, but it's largely dependent on the coach and situation at the time. Even if Alabama gets six of the top ten to Auburn's four, it's still a factor in determining the best jobs in these kinds of lists. Honestly it doesn't matter anyway as the right coach can win at literally any of the top schools in the SEC.
