Based on what I've read from both BOL and BamaMag this kid seems to be the real deal. I imagine he has the green light if he wants to commit.

He was the Opening Linebacker MVP over some really highly ranked LBs.

My question is who's spot does he take from the group of guys we've considered as Alabama leans?

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings, a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. Today, we talk the latest with Alabama’s longest-tenured commitment and news from the Tide’s first day of camp.

Jordan Davis is locked in with Alabama

Jordan Davis, a 4-star outside linebacker from Southwind High School (Memphis, Tenn.), has that future Alabama mentality. He’s been committed to the Crimson Tide since December 2016 and hasn’t wavered from his commitment at all.

He knows that Alabama arguably has more talent on its roster than any other college football team, especially at linebacker. While Alabama has had a slow start on the recruiting trail this cycle with only six commitments, Davis believes the fear of competition is a main reason why some recruits are holding off on choosing the Tide.

“I think there are some people who are scared to compete,” Davis told SEC Country. “You’re going to have a lot of 5-star players in front of you. You’re also going to have a bunch of future NFL athletes in front of you, too. To me, those are people you should learn from and get better from. Patience is a virtue. You may not play your freshman or sophomore year, but at the end of the road, you’re going to leave with a degree and have a chance to get drafted.

“Alabama isn’t for everybody. Being coached under Nick Saban isn’t for everybody. When you come to Alabama, there’s going to be lots of competition. You just have to have the right mindset if you’re coming to Alabama.”

Davis didn’t grow up luxuriously. That’s actually part of the reason why he decided on Alabama. There were several nights growing up that Davis and his family spent in a shelter because of financial struggles.

Those nights are over now as his mother, Tiffany Harmon, has a stable job in the health care field. But Davis hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to struggle and fight for what you want in life.

“Going to Alabama just fits my lifestyle with how I grew up,” Davis said. “Competing was something my mom had to do every day when I was a child. She had to compete and we had to fight when we were growing up, and we were poor. At Alabama, I’m going to have to compete every day for what I want.”

What he wants is a future career in the NFL, but the Alabama coaches aren’t promising him that. In recruiting, you learn that coaches will say any and everything to potential recruits in order to get them to commit.

Davis doesn’t get that fluff from the Alabama staff.

“Alabama just keeps it 100 [percent] with you,” Davis said. “That’s what I really love about them. They’re not going to sell you a dream. But what they do say is that if I work out hard and do well on and off the field, I will have a chance to get to the league. [Outside linebackers] coach [Tosh] Lupoi tells me all of the time that he sees a big-time outside linebacker in myself getting drafted in the next four years.”

Tennessee and Oregon are the schools that are the most devoted in trying to change his mind on Alabama. He hears from both of those programs every single day. Florida and South Carolina are also strongly recruiting him.

Don’t expect any program to change his mind.

“I’m 2,000 percent committed to Alabama,” Davis said. “I tell other coaching staffs all of the time that I’m all in with Alabama. They still tell me that they’re going to recruit me, and I respect that. But, I’ve been telling everybody that I’m locked in with Alabama, so no one really has been hitting me up about visits. But I am planning on taking official visits to get a little vacation.”

Davis will return to Tuscaloosa this weekend with his good friend and “blood brother,” 4-star offensive guard Jerome Carvin. Carvin is one of the team’s top offensive line targets.

News from Alabama’s first day of camp

- 4-star LSU defensive back commit Nadab Joseph wasn’t on the initial visitor’s list for the first day of Nick Saban’s Football Camp, but the South Florida native traveled to Tuscaloosa for the second time in as many months. That’s significant because obviously South Florida isn’t around the corner from Tuscaloosa. After Joseph added an offer from Alabama during his last trip, he told SEC Country that the Crimson Tide had him rethinking his commitment to the Tigers. Will this trip result in a flip?

- Micah Parsons, a 5-star Jack target for the Crimson Tide, made it to Tuscaloosa for his multi-day visit. This is Parsons’ first time visiting Alabama, which means this is truly the first time the Tide can gain serious momentum for the nation’s No. 5 overall recruit. He talked about what he was hoping to learn on the visit here.

- The nation’s No. 3 athlete in the Class of 2019, Isaiah Williams, picked up an offer from Alabama while on his visit to Tuscaloosa. Williams worked out as a wide receiver for the coaching staff.

- Julian Barnett, the nation’s No. 6 cornerback in the Class of 2019, added an offer. Barnett also is in Tuscaloosa for camp.

- Warren Burrell, a 2019 cornerback from Georgia, added an offer.
